How to make a Lime Cardamom Zebra Cake
Hi there! I’m so glad you love zebras as much as I do. They are such beautiful and graceful animals, don’t you think? I also love seeing them in the wild, especially in our amazing country. There is nothing like a road trip to enjoy the wonders of nature and wildlife.
But you know what else I love? Zebra cake! It’s a delicious and easy cake that has lovely stripes of vanilla and chocolate. It’s perfect for any occasion, especially when it’s cold and rainy outside. And I have a special recipe for you that will make your zebra cake even more yummy and unique.
This recipe uses some ingredients that you may not have tried before, but trust me, they will make your cake moist, fluffy, and full of flavour. You will need some lime zest, which is the grated skin of a lime. It will add a refreshing citrus taste to your cake. You will also need some cardamom, which is a spice that has a warm and aromatic flavour. It will complement the lime and chocolate very well. And finally, you will need some mala, which is fermented milk. In place of mala, you can use buttermilk. It will make your cake rich and tender.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoon of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of cardamom
- 1 teaspoon of lime zest
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla
- ½ cup of mala (room temperature)
- ½ cup of oil
- 3 eggs
- 6 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 ½ tablespoons of sweetened cocoa
To make this cake, you will need two bowls. In one bowl, you will mix the dry ingredients: flour, lime zest, cardamom, and baking powder. In another bowl, you will mix the wet ingredients: vanilla, mala, oil, and eggs. Then you will combine the two mixtures and stir well.
Next, you will divide the batter into two parts. One part will stay as it is, and the other part will have some cocoa powder added to it. This will create the chocolate batter for the stripes. Then you will pour the two batters alternately into a greased and dusted bread pan, creating layers of vanilla and chocolate. You will also use a skewer to swirl the batter and create a wavy pattern.
Then you will bake the cake in the oven at 190 degrees Celsius for 45 minutes. You will check if it’s done by inserting a skewer into the cake. If it comes out clean, then your cake is ready. You will let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
And that’s it! You have made a beautiful and tasty zebra cake that will impress your family and friends. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
